Spring is ‘The Senses’
”Tuning in to our five senses can awaken our mindfulness and revive our sense of excitement, connection, gratitude, and wonder.“
(Gretchen Rubin, author ‘The Five Senses’
The Senses: Your Gateway to Presence
I find that Spring often creeps up on me .. unexpectedly one day, I will notice there is a waft of warm wind or see a tree full of pink blossom buds. These first stirrings of Spring let me know that nature is awakening from its slumber and preparing to burst upward toward the returning sunlight. Spring is this season of rising Yang energy … fresh, bright, and full of promise. Yes, buds swell, birdsong returns, and the earth beneath us holds this pulse of quiet urgency - and we are being invited to rise with it.
After the stillness and muted tones of Winter, Spring awakens us with a riot of vibrant colours, scents, and textures that stir the senses and uplifts the spirit.
The Spring ‘Senses’ Meditation Box invites you to see, hear, touch, taste, and smell the world as it awakens … offering a fresh anchor for your meditation practice.
The ‘Senses’ Definition:
Our five primary senses include sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, and they are our fundamental channels to experience the world. In mindfulness practice, they serve not only as gateways for perception but can also be the anchors that draw our attention back to the present moment.
According to Merriam-Webster, “mindfulness” is “the quality or state of being mindful; the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one's thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.” When we engage our senses mindfully, we cultivate this awareness through direct, lived experience.
Spring naturally awakens our senses when we notice: the blush of blossom, the warm breeze on skin, the zesty burst of citrus, or new bird song in the much earlier dawn light.
